PETALING JAYA:
The domestic trade and cost of living ministry has urged consumers to be wary of scammers selling cooking oil packaged in 1kg polybags online.

In a statement, the ministry said it had received many complaints from people claiming to have been scammed while trying to purchase the cooking oil through social media or e-commerce platforms.

It added that the packets of cooking oil were being sold for less than the subsidised price of RM2.50.

The ministry said it had formed a special unit under its enforcement division to keep an eye out for these activities and to take the necessary action.

“Consumers are advised to be cautious of advertisements offering cheap cooking oil packets, as these can be scams.

“The ministry will not compromise with any parties found to be involved in misappropriating controlled and subsidised goods,” it said.
