GEORGE TOWN:
Water supply has been restored to 533,000 consumers or 90.4% of those affected by a shutdown for repairs to the main water treatment plant in Sungai Dua.

Full restoration of water supply in the remaining parts of Seberang Perai and the south of Penang island is expected by 6am tomorrow, the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) said, Bernama reported.

A total of 590,000 consumer accounts across Penang were affected by the water supply shutdown from 6am on Wednesday.

Work will begin at midnight to install new pipes as a temporary diversion across the Perai river due to the recent leaks detected in the riverbed pipe.

Chief minister Chow Kon Yeow said the contractor is expected to carry out work around the clock, and the project is expected to be completed within 21 days.
