Aiman, who is also the deputy housing and local government minister, said the wing is looking to branch out to about 80 parliamentary constituencies, as it has only been registered in 138 so far.
Malaysia has 222 federal constituencies nationwide.
“Other than strengthening the organisation and resources of our party, our focus is on reaching out to society, so we can support the policies of the current government,” said Aiman after chairing a committee meeting at Amanah’s headquarters today.
The Sepang MP said the wing will register its state chapters in Sabah and Sarawak by the end of this year.
“We will register in other constituencies once we have elected our state chiefs. Some areas will be more difficult to reach out to,” she said.
Aiman also said her committee will find ways to increase the number of women members in Amanah.
“Currently, 40% of the 280,000 Amanah members are women. It’s our job to recruit more female members and ensure they are in leadership positions,” she said.
New appointments
Aiman also announced the new line-up for Wanita Amanah’s leadership committee.
Nor Hayati Bachok and Mariam Abdul Rashid have been appointed as vice-chiefs, along with Dr Hafidzah Mustakim, Salmee Said and Kamaliah Nordin, who were elected last year.
Nor Hayati is a former assemblyman for Maharani, while Mariam is the assemblyman for Meru.
Mashita Ismail and Norlaila Nordin have been elected as secretary and deputy secretary, respectively.
Other appointments include Sabrina Yusoff as treasurer, and Rozita Abdul as election director.
Aiman said seven of the 34 members in the leadership committee are direct appointments, while the rest were elected at its national convention last year.
On Dec 22, Aiman retained the post of Wanita Amanah chief after being selected as a member of Amanah’s 27-member committee. Anfaal Saari, who is a Selangor executive councillor, was named as her deputy.
