Lorry driver killed in crash after trying to avoid potholes

PETALING JAYA:
A lorry driver died in an accident after trying to avoid potholes on the road in Kampung Sentosa Jaya, Kinabatangan, Sabah today.

Izuan Mambasang was found trapped in the driver’s seat. A passenger, Ahmad Din Ahmad, was injured while another passenger, Saufi Ahmad, escaped unscathed.

Izuan was driving a rubbish truck owned by the Kinabatangan district council from Lahad Datu to Sandakan when the incident occured.

Kinabatangan police chief Dzulbaharin Ismail said the driver had attempted to avoid several potholes on the road, causing him to lose control of the vehicle before it skidded and toppled over.

“Medical officers confirmed that the driver died at the scene,” he said.

The body was sent to Kinabatangan Hospital for a post-mortem. An investigation is being conducted for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Dzulbaharin urged members of the public with information on the incident to come forward to assist in the investigation.
