Anwar made it easier for you to table no-confidence motion, PN told

Unity government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil says Anwar Ibrahim shortened the time required to file the motion.

Unity government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil said PAS’s Pasir Mas MP Ahmad Fadhli Shaari has either ‘forgotten or is too lazy’ to remember what Anwar Ibrahim said.
PETALING JAYA:
Unity government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil has rubbished an opposition MP’s claim that there was no guarantee a motion of no confidence would be allowed to be tabled against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Fahmi pointed out that Anwar had invited the opposition to file a motion against him twice last year, but Perikatan Nasional did not do so.

“Not true. He has thrown down the gauntlet twice before, even promising to cut down the time required to file the motion,” he said in a posting on X.

“Maybe the Pasir Mas MP (Ahmad Fadhli Shaari) has forgotten or is too lazy to remember this.

“The prime minister has said it twice, and the second time, he said he would even shorten the notice period (from two weeks to three days).

“The thing is… the opposition is not willing to do that. If they are, they would have already shown their strength during the motion of confidence in December 2022.”

After being appointed to the top post following the 15th general election (GE15) in November 2022, Anwar pledged to table a motion of confidence in the Dewan Rakyat to prove his majority in Parliament.

Anwar won the vote of confidence on Dec 19, 2022, when it was passed through a voice vote. The opposition did not call for a bloc vote.

Yesterday, Anwar said PN has yet to file a no-confidence motion against him despite multiple claims of the government’s impending collapse in the past year.

He said this was because the opposition lacked the support for the motion to succeed.

In response, Fadhli said there was no guarantee that Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul will allow a no-confidence motion to be tabled, citing how other motions filed by PN MPs in the past were rejected “outright” by Johari.

Last May, Anwar challenged MPs claiming that PN had enough support to unseat him from the top post to file the motion in the Dewan Rakyat.

He repeated that challenge in July, saying he would not prevent the motion from being filed.

The prime minister added that he would even shorten the notice period for the motion from two weeks to three days to make it easier for it to be tabled.
