Its chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said the DAP leader’s remarks were not only disrespectful but also pre-emptive of police investigations.
“We extend our condolences to Ngeh for the incident that befell him. We maintain that such actions are unacceptable in a democratic country. We also hope that he will receive justice,” he told reporters after filing the report at the Kajang police station.
“But let the police investigate. There is no need to be smarter than the police.”
Fadhli also said there was no reason for PN to be involved in such acts against Ngeh, urging the police to expedite investigations to uncover the truth.
“I am confident that it (the fire) has nothing to do with PN or anyone in the opposition,” he added.
At a press conference yesterday, Ngeh said those behind the fire might have been instigated by others, misled by falsehoods created by PAS and Bersatu over a statement he made on Dec 28.
Ngeh had courted controversy with the statement by suggesting that non-Muslim constitutional experts be appointed to the committee reviewing the jurisdiction of shariah courts according to the Federal Constitution.
His proposal was criticised by various quarters, with PAS and Bersatu leaders accusing him of interfering in Islamic affairs. Umno leaders meanwhile said Ngeh’s proposal was “shallow” and “unfounded”.
Ngeh later withdrew his statement, saying it had been used to fuel intolerance and hatred among the people.
Also present today was Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, who commented on a police report filed yesterday over social media videos claiming that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong was being bribed with RM1 billion by PN to topple the unity government.
Wan Fayhsal also questioned the lack of action from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.
“This involves the Agong, not us. The Agong’s dignity and reputation have been tarnished due to political games initiated by the community communications department (J-Kom),” he said.
“They started this fairy tale called the Dubai Move.”

Meanwhile, police have recorded statements from seven people regarding the arson attack on Ngeh’s residence in Taman Semarak Jaya, Ayer Tawar, early yesterday.
Perak police chief Yusri Hassan Basri said no arrests have been made so far.
“Police are also monitoring and increasing patrols around the MP’s house,” he said in a statement today.
He said they were also obtaining closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage from the area, in addition to technical assistance and statements from witnesses to identify the suspect.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire.
Early yesterday morning, a “Molotov cocktail” was thrown into Ngeh’s residence, which caused a fire that destroyed one of his cars and damaged two others.
Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said they were looking at various angles in their investigation into the arson attack, including collecting information from the Special Branch and also public tip-offs.
