Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said in a media conference today that police have received a total of 43 police reports nationwide with regards to a circulated clip commenting on an “activity that would harm parliamentary democracy”.
An investigation paper was opened based on those reports, he said, with the prime suspect being blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin.
“The suspect is Raja Petra, who is based abroad. He talked about the collapse of the government for more than 10 days.
“Maybe we won’t get Raja Petra, because he is in Manchester, but we may summon Papagomo, Chegubard, and Salim Iskandar,” he said, the last person being a social media influencer.
The much-speculated “Dubai Move” refers to alleged talks in the United Arab Emirates between certain opposition leaders and government representatives to topple Anwar Ibrahim’s administration.
The alleged meeting was supposedly aimed at dividing tasks among “agents” to identify MPs who could switch support to the opposition to form a new government, which has been played down by Anwar and other top government leaders.
On Jan 7, Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor claimed that Perikatan Nasional had acquired enough statutory declarations (SDs) to overthrow the unity government.
However, he did not provide details, including the exact number of SDs obtained, especially from government MPs.
When asked about Sanusi’s claim, Anwar said he would only comment “if there is a bigger issue”.
Razarudin said that the police are duty bound to act on claims that the government will be toppled as such rumours could lead to public unrest.
He said that if such claims are true, they should be brought to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong or put to the test at the Dewan Rakyat.
“…state that you have the numbers (support from MPs) and ask for a vote of confidence,” he said.
