KUALA LUMPUR:
The police have detained a suspect for driving under the influence of alcohol, following a crash involving a Bernama staff member in Petaling Jaya on Friday.

Petaling Jaya police chief Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said the 25-year-old man was remanded for a day and released on police bail.

He said the driver tested negative for drugs but his blood alcohol level exceeded the permitted limit.

Bernama TV broadcasting technician Saifuddin Nazari is in the intensive care unit of University Malaya Medical Centre following the crash while on his way home from work, the agency said.

Fakhrudin said the case is being investigated for careless and inconsiderate driving under Section 43a (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and driving under the influence of an intoxicating substance under Section 45a (1) of the same Act.

“We appeal to members of the public who witnessed the incident to come forward to the traffic division of the Petaling Jaya police headquarters to facilitate the investigation,” he said.
