PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained an assistant administrative officer in Kedah for allegedly soliciting and accepting a bribe to annul a compound notice issued by an enforcement agency.

An MACC source said the officer, in his 40s, was arrested at 5.30pm yesterday after giving his statement at the anti-graft agency’s office in Kedah.

“The man is believed to have sought and received a bribe amounting to RM5,000 from a company in 2022,” said the source.

“The money was allegedly given to cancel a compound notice issued by an enforcement agency against the company for lacking a certificate of compliance over the standard of construction materials.”

The Alor Setar magistrates’ court allowed the anti-graft agency to remand him for six days from today.

When contacted, Kedah MACC director Soock Wee Ei Tem confirmed the arrest and said the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009.
