Boy and girl from Myanmar among 95 arrested in immigration raids

Immigration officials have arrested 95 undocumented migrants, in raids conducted at 25 premises around Ipoh and Gopeng, near here, yesterday.

State deputy immigration director Sharmanrizal Rustam said nine men, seven women, and a boy and girl from Myanmar were among those detained.

Others were from Thailand (16 men and 23 women); Bangladesh (18 men); Cambodia (one man and 10 women); and Indonesia (five men). Also arrested were a Pakistani man; a Lao woman; a Filipino woman and an Egyptian man.

He said immigration officials carried out inspections at 25 premises, including clothing shops, eateries, a car wash centre, an entertainment centre and a recreation centre.

Sharmanrizal said the migrants were detained on suspicion of having committed immigration offences, including not having valid documentation, overstaying and misusing visit passes.
