Commenting on the so-called “Dubai Move” in an opinion piece in Harakah Daily, Hadi said all parties that believe in democracy want to be in government and not just remain in the opposition forever.
“The government, on the other hand, will defend its position.
“In a democratic system, change can happen through the ballot box or if elected representatives hold a vote of no confidence, or if there are enough statutory declarations (proving that the prime minister lacks support).”
Speculation over the “Dubai Move” arose last week following alleged discussions between opposition leaders and certain government representatives during a recent visit to the United Arab Emirates.
The discussions were allegedly aimed at dividing tasks among “agents” to identify MPs who could switch their support to the opposition and form a new government.
Government leaders including deputy prime ministers Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Fadillah Yusof have dismissed the “Dubai Move”, with the former saying efforts to topple the unity government are a waste of time.
Hadi said PAS and its allies in Perikatan Nasional did not believe in “shopping” for the support of MPs with money or promises, but in “true democracy”.
He said PAS had always been patient, even when it had only one seat, and continued to be steadfast throughout the changes in Malaysia’s political landscape.
“But we remain ready for a change of government through democracy and our constitutional monarchy.”
He also criticised the government, accusing it of failing to deliver on promises and being unable to govern smoothly.
