The discount applies for those making a one-time lump sum payment to settle their overdue fines, chief minister Chow Kon Yeow said.
The discount will be in effect until May 31, “to encourage property owners to settle their taxes as required”.
Chow said the discount is automatically applied to all property tax payers making overdue fine payments, either at the land and district office or online through the PgLAND portal, and also applies to taxpayers receiving Penalty Notice 6A (quit rent) or Penalty Notice 11 (assessment),” he added.
Quit rent (and the equivalent parcel rent) is a land tax imposed on land owners and strata-title holders, while assessment is a property tax imposed by local councils.
However, Chow said the discount does not apply to instalment payments or overdue fines settled before Jan 2, which is the effective date of the discount offer by the state government.
“Landowners with inquiries may contact the revenue unit at the Penang lands and mines office, or the land and district office,” he said.
