
He said they had met with the owner of the lot who permitted them to use the site until Dec 31.
“The owner sent us a WhatsApp message saying he was allowing us to occupy the site. So City Hall cannot stop us,” he told reporters today.
The six-day “blockade” outside the embassy was organised in response to Washington’s veto of the United Nations’ efforts to push for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Tian Chua said City Hall had proposed for the protest to be moved to Padang Merbok or Ampang Point, which SSP did not agree to.
“If we shift to Padang Merbok it will be inconsistent with the theme, while holding it at Ampang Point may obstruct the walkways as it is near an LRT station, according to the police.
“And we agree (with the police). In the end, this is the most ideal site.”
He said if City Hall could propose a better venue, they were open to discussions, but insisted that while the site was not ideal, it was “most appropriate”.
Tian Chua also said he has yet to be summoned by the police after the authorities opened an investigation paper under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 for organising an event without a permit.
Last night, he had said SSP was willing to hold the gathering at another location if it was allowed to continue protesting the US’s apparent intransigence in hastening an end to hostilities in Palestine.
