KUALA LUMPUR:
The decision of the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) to charge a senior police officer with murder over a fatal accident involving a student in Meru, Ipoh, last Friday shows that the police are transparent in their investigations, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husin said.

He said the decision to charge the officer with the rank of deputy superintendent under Section 302 of the Penal Code today was made by the AGC based on evidence and testimonies obtained from a comprehensive probe by the investigating officer.

“The decision shows the transparency of the police in investigating any criminal case, including those involving senior police officers,” Razarudin told Bernama.

“The investigation was carried out by the Perak police chief and the Ipoh district police chief, along with a good and credible investigative team.

“I remain uncompromising should any personnel or officer commit a crime, and will ensure that a fair and transparent investigation is conducted to preserve the good reputation of this force.”

He said the senior officer, aged 44, will be suspended immediately after he is charged, and that all police officers and personnel should learn from this incident.

A recording of the incident involving the Form Five student, who was hit and dragged by a car along Jalan Taman Jati near SMK Jati in Meru, had gone viral on Friday.

Zaharif Affendi Zamrie died due to severe injuries to his chest and abdomen.
