The service will target first and last-mile areas with limited public bus access, says transport minister Loke Siew Fook.

KUALA LUMPUR:
The transport ministry will introduce an on-demand transit van service, or demand-responsive transit, in the Klang Valley to enhance public transportation interconnectivity.

Its minister, Loke Siew Fook, said the ministry will announce further details on its implementation, which will target first and last-mile areas with limited access to public bus services.

Loke said part of the RM50 million allocation under Budget 2024 to enhance public transportation will be used to purchase the vans, adding that Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana) has been tasked to oversee the operations.

“We understand that not all residential areas have bus routes. The concept is similar to e-hailing services. It has no special routes, but we will target strategic locations,” he told reporters at the party headquarters here today.

Loke said the ministry wants Prasarana to cooperate with companies offering van-on-demand services to expand the initiative.
