Bernama reported that deputy registrar Saidatul Akmar Suberi allowed the remand order on the 38-year-old unemployed man until next Friday.
Shah Alam police chief Iqbal Ibrahim was earlier reported as saying a college lecturer had died after being allegedly beaten with a dumbbell.
Iqbal said police received a report at 5.33am from the suspect himself, who said his wife was suffering from fits, before he brought her unconscious body to the Shah Alam Hospital.
He said initial examination of the 33-year-old woman found several injuries on her body, and further investigation found that the suspect had allegedly beaten her out of jealousy.
Police arrested the man at the hospital at 12.49pm, and seized the dumbbell.
It was reported that the couple had married in April and have no children, and that a urine test found the suspect positive for methamphetamine.
