The state’s police chief Hussein Omar Khan said laboratory tests confirmed the matter, Sinar Harian reported.
He also said that to date, there are no new leads in the investigation into Zayn’s murder, but said police were still looking for fresh evidence at the crime scene.
“We have taken the statements from some 172 people, including the parents, neighbours and the residents in the area,” he was quoted as saying.
Zayn was reported missing on Dec 5. His body was found the following day in a stream about 200m from the block where he lived at Apartment Idaman in Damansara Damai here.
Police previously said they believed Zayn was murdered based on the strangulation marks and signs of struggle found on his body.
Post-mortem results showed his death occurred within the span of 48 hours before his body was found.
On Monday, Hussein said that based on leads they obtained so far, they believe that one person was involved in the boy’s murder.
