Hospital staff celebrated his visit with songs and cheers as he toured various departments that boasted new air-conditioning units funded by his generous donations.
This is not the first time that the Bukit Mertajam MP had given up his constituency allocations for the hospital, having donated generously since being elected.
The RM200,000 spent was to provide air-conditioning and critical wiring work for six wards and departments in critical need, and another RM32,000 for chairs and furniture for the hospital’s emergency wards.
The works were completed last month and will benefit some 1,000 patients and workers who use the facility daily.
“Some of these departments’ staff work in immense heat and have been suffering in silence for 20 years,” Sim told reporters.
“Imagine patients and healthcare workers in such heat. It is bound to affect them.
“The hospital is over a century old and is in need of upgrades. I will discuss with the hospital administration to see how we can further help based on the federal government’s ability.”
