Safiq Rosli, 37, who is the first person to be charged for the offence under Section 507A(1) of the Penal Code, made the plea before magistrate Sasha Diana Sabtu, according to Bernama.
The anti-stalking bill, passed in the Dewan Rakyat on Oct 3 last year, sought to amend the Penal Code to make stalking, whether virtually or otherwise, an offence punishable by imprisonment for up to three years, a fine, or both if convicted.
Safiq had pleaded not guilty when the charge was first read out to him on Aug 10. On the same day, the court also allowed the prosecution’s request to refer the accused to the Ulu Kinta Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
Sasha Diana, in accepting the accused’s guilty plea, said she had read the findings of the medical report which stated that the accused was “fit for trial and also fit to plead”.
The court then set Dec 19 to hear the facts of the case before sentencing the accused.
Safiq was charged with repeatedly harassing Acacia Mardiana Daud, 31, through the X app under the account name “@sopert99” by sending three messages to her, expressing his feelings for the woman on her X account “@ShaFoShizzle”.
He was alleged to have committed the offence between 1.40am on July 15 and 5.58pm on July 21 despite knowing that the act was likely to “cause distress, fear or alarm to her”.
Deputy public prosecutor Zilfinaz Abbas prosecuted while lawyer Fithril Hakim Ab Jalil represented the accused.
