SHAH ALAM:
Residents of Kampung Bunga Raya, Subang, want the Selangor government to intervene and resolve a 30-year-long housing issue in the area.

The residents submitted a memorandum on the matter to Khairun Nizam, a special aide to Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari, outside the state government office here. They were joined by Malaysian Tamilar Kural president, David Marshel.

Previously, it was reported that over 90 families residing in the longhouses of Kampung Bunga Raya faced prolonged hardship since 1993 due to the stalled Dahlia housing project in Section U5, which was abandoned by developer Unique Creations.

Marshel said the residents are seeking a meeting with Amirudin to get to the bottom of the issue.

“We have studied and compiled a complete chronology that proves the residents have rights to that land, and the government should provide housing. However, after 30 years, the issue remains unresolved,” he told a press conference.

The Kampung Bunga Raya village chief, who only wants to be known as Ganesan, said the residents were asked to vacate their original land in 1993 and were promised new accommodation by the state government.

“We were temporarily placed in longhouses on government-owned land, but after 30 years, the land was given to the developer,” said the 46-year-old.

A resident who only wants to be identified as Rishikumal, 38, said they are hoping for the menteri besar to step in as their “MP and assemblyman have failed to solve the problem”.

“We’re not asking for allocations, just a solution,” he said.
