BANGKOK: Eleven Bangladeshis believed to be heading to Malaysia were nabbed by Thai police on Saturday after their pickup truck overturned in Sa Kaeo province, on the eastern border of Thailand about 245km from Bangkok.
Thailand’s Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) said the 11 men were aged between 22 and 48 years.
It said the Thai highway police chased after the speeding pickup truck at about 5am before it lost control and overturned.
“The 35-year-old driver, a Thai man, fled the scene. The highway police found the 11 Bangladeshis in the damaged vehicle.
“The initial investigation revealed that the group had travelled from Bangladesh to Cambodia before illegally crossing into Thailand via the pickup truck en route to Malaysia,” it said.
