JOHOR BAHRU:
A special state holiday has been declared in Johor next Sunday (Dec 17) to mark the success of the state football team, Johor Darul Ta’zim FC, in winning the Malaysia Cup last night.

The state secretary, Azmi Rohani, said the holiday would also mark the success of the JDT team, known as the Southern Tigers, in winning the Super League for the tenth time in a row.

A celebration will be held at 8.30pm, on Dec 16 at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri, after the match against Penang FC, he said.

Yesterday, JDT beat Terengganu FC 3-1 in the final of the 2023 Malaysia Cup, completing a sweep of all four cups contested in Malaysian football. The team has also won the Charity Shield, FA Cup and Super League, with two games in hand.

No holiday in Terengganu

Separately, the Terengganu government denied that a public holiday had been declared tomorrow, as alleged in a viral posting on social media.

The menteri besar, Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, said the posting was fake and was an old poster that had been edited.
