Driver chased by 28 patrol cars jailed for a month, fined RM10,000

PETALING JAYA:
A motorist, who was involved in a high-speed car chase with 28 patrol cars, was sentenced to prison for a month and fined RM10,000 by the magistrate’s court for reckless driving and obstructing police officers.

B Anbarasan was slapped with the fine after pleading guilty to the charges before magistrate Shahril Anuar Ahmad Mustapha, Berita Harian reported.

If he fails to settle the fine, he will be imprisoned for eight months.

The court also ordered that his driving licence be suspended for five years.

Separately, Anbarasan and his wife, M Rishlani, were charged in the sessions court with possessing a knife in the vicinity of the police district headquarters.

They were granted bail of RM5,000 each in one surety.

The couple was also ordered to report to the nearest police station every month pending disposal of their case.

The court fixed Jan 16 for mention.

They were arrested earlier this week following the high-speed chase in Cyberjaya, with videos of police cars in pursuit of Anbarasan’s Perodua Bezza going viral.

A policeman was also injured in the chase after Anbarasan’s car rammed into his motorcycle when he tried to stop the car in Sungai Way, Petaling Jaya.
