The disruptions will take place from Jan 10 to 14, and PBAPP said most areas will be completely cut off while some areas will have limited supply.

In a statement, it also said it would be carrying out valve replacement works at the Sungai Dua water treatment plant and related repairs at several other locations along the main pipeline.

“PBAPP requests consumers to make preparations by storing enough water to face the supply disruptions,” the company said.

“Please ensure that your premises are equipped with water storage tanks to minimise inconvenience. We will make notifications about assistance and other support from time to time.”

PBAPP serves almost 677,000 consumers in Penang, and nearly 70% of them depend on treated water from the Sungai Dua plant.

Penang has faced water scares over the past 18 months. In July 2022, the Baling floods polluted Sungai Muda, and in May this year, the sudden drop in the river’s water level resulted in the main water treatment plant being unable to produce the normal amount of treated water.
