KUANTAN:
The Pahang economic planning division is acquiring the site for the Pulau Tioman airport upgrade, which involves extending the runway from 850m to 1.3km, state public works, transport, health and local government committee chairman Fakhruddin Ariff told the state assembly.

He said the federal government had approved RM47 million for the project.

Fakhruddin was responding to a question from Johari Hussain (BN-Tioman) on the status of the airport.

To a supplementary question from Johari on whether the airport was ready to receive flights, Fakhruddin said consultants were still studying the matter.

Meanwhile, unity, tourism and culture committee chairman Leong Yu Man said the state government is determining the exact location in Kuantan mentioned in the anime “Jujutsu Kaisen” series, which has gone viral on social media.

“We are contacting the Japanese side to get approval from the creator of the anime to determine the exact location, so that there will be a place for anime fans to check in, while making it a new attraction for anime fans all over the world,” she said.

She was replying to a question from Rosli Abdul Jabar (PN-Tanjung Lumpur) on plans to upgrade Pantai Anak Air and turn Pantai Tanjung Lumpur Beach into a tourist destination.
