8-year-old boy survives lightning strike

Police say the youngster from Simpang Empat suffered burns to almost his entire body.

KANGAR:
An eight-year-old boy suffered burns to almost his entire body after being struck by lightning in Kampung Permatang Kerisek, Simpang Empat, near here, last night.

Kangar police chief Yusharifuddin Yusop said that in the 7pm incident, Azizul Jaafar and his 39-year-old mother, Nor Lelawati Abu Bakar, were walking home from a neighbour’s house.

He added that Nor Lelawati was unhurt but traumatised by the incident.

“It was raining. Nor Lelawati had gone to fetch her son from a neighbour’s house,” Yusharifuddin said in a statement today.

He said the boy is being treated at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar.
