KUALA LUMPUR:
A 27-year-old man died when he was run over by a Light Rail Transit (LRT) train after he fell onto the track at the Dato Keramat LRT station last night.

Wangsa Maju district police chief Ashari Abu Samah said the case has been classified as sudden death.

In a statement, he said the police received a call from the auxiliary police at the Dato’ Keramat LRT station at 10.56pm reporting that a man had jumped onto the tracks at the station.

“The fire and rescue department attempted to remove the victim but found that he had already died,” he said.

The man was officially pronounced dead by an assistant medical officer at 11.13pm. The body was taken to the hospital for a post-mortem.

Ashari urged those who have any information about the incident to assist in the investigation by contacting the Wangsa Maju police headquarters at 03-92899222, the Kuala Lumpur police hotline at 03-21159999, or any nearby police station.

Rapid Rail said in a statement last night the incident had caused services along the Kelana Jaya Line to be disrupted, resulting in lengthy waiting time for commuters.

It said alternative rail services, including support bus services, were activated to assist the commuters.

“Rapid Rail will cooperate and work with the authorities to carry out an investigation into the incident. We wish to apologise for any inconvenience caused,” it said.
