TELUK INTAN:
A lorry attendant believed to be a member of a robbery gang known as “Geng Bulat” was charged in the sessions court here today with attempting to murder a policeman.

Hafiz Naharoddin, 28, pleaded not guilty to the charge before judge Intan Nurul Farena Zainal Abidin.

He was charged with attempting to kill Nik Khairul Izwan Nik Jid by driving a car dangerously with the intention or knowledge that the act could cause death.

The offence was allegedly committed in front of Masjid Simpang 4 Labu Kubong at Chenderong Balai here at 5.50pm on Oct 23.

The charge was framed under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which provides imprisonment for up to 20 years and a fine, if convicted.

Deputy public prosecutor Cheah Shuh Yuan did not propose bail.

However, lawyer M Saravanan from the National Legal Aid Foundation requested that Hafiz be allowed bail on the grounds that he crashed into the police car by accident.

Saravanan also said Hafiz, who has a child, was shot in the shoulder by the police in the incident.

The court allowed Hafiz bail of RM10,000 in one surety and ordered him to report himself at the nearest police station every month.

Intan set Dec 29 for next mention of the case.
