Dewan Rakyat passes 2024 Budget

The budget was passed after a majority of MPs backed it through a voice vote.

KUALA LUMPUR:
The supply bill 2024 was passed in the Dewan Rakyat tonight after the majority of MPs supported it via a voice vote.

The bill was passed after being debated by MPs since Oct 16 at the policy and committee stages.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul announced the matter after the third reading of the bill by deputy finance minister Ahmad Maslan.

The 2024 national budget, themed “Economic Reforms, Empowering the Rakyat”, was tabled by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in the lower house on Oct 13. It involves an allocation of RM393.8 billion, the largest sum to ever be tabled.

Operating expenditure takes up RM303.8 billion of the overall budget, with the remaining RM90 billion for development expenditure and RM2 billion in contingency savings.
