Loke said he was aware that there is a lack of cooperation and collaboration among various positions within Selangor’s local governance structure.
“If you cannot cooperate, just resign. If they don’t want to resign, then we’ll just get rid of them,” he said at the 2023 Selangor DAP Convention here today, drawing cheers from the crowd.
Loke then turned to Selangor DAP chairman Gobind Singh Deo, who was on the stage, and urged him to be firm in addressing such issues.
“(There are) all sorts of problems … I don’t understand what the matter is. If these problems cannot be resolved, how can we aspire to (play a meaningful role) in the government?” he said.
Loke also warned against discriminatory practices in fund allocation based on personal relationships and preferences.
Emphasising the importance of adhering to procedures. he said: “If there are welfare issues, allocate funds. The funds aren’t our own money. It is given by the government to the representatives to help the constituency and the people. This is not subject to our own discretion.
“If something as simple as this can’t be done, then we will know what we need to do when the next elections come along.”
Later, at a press conference, Loke was asked how he planned to monitor the issue or whether he would consider pushing for local council elections.
He said there must be a proper mechanism to monitor this because the appointments for various posts originated from the party’s state committee.
On local elections, Loke said the party had been supportive of this proposal, but any policy decision had to be made by everyone involved in the government.
Gobind said the state chapter regularly received feedback on its operations at the grassroots level, and acknowledged that problems may arise every now and then.
“We try to advise them and solve these issues. Of course, if we are unable to do so, then action will be taken,” he said.
