Rights activist Arun Dorasamy said the family will also submit to the police the name of a new suspect they allege was behind the murder, as well as evidence to back their claim.
At a press conference here today, Arun said they have not received any updates after the police remanded nine individuals in their investigation into the murder.
“Until now, there has been no progress at all. So we are ready to make a (new) police report with additional information for the police to conduct their investigation,” he said.
The press conference at the national human rights commission’s (Suhakam) headquarters was also attended by Vinayagam’s mother, Sumathi Gopal, and his sister, Malar Jaganathan.
Arun said they have also submitted evidence to Suhakam in hopes that it would conduct an independent inquiry into Vinayagam’s murder.
He expressed confidence that Suhakam will initiate the inquiry and said they will provide full cooperation to facilitate its investigation.
Vinayagam, who was 32, was alleged to have been abducted from his car along Jalan Masjid India here on Oct 26, 2021. Three days later, his naked body was found by the roadside in Ulu Yam, Selangor, with his hands and feet bound, and his throat slit.
Subsequently, Gombak police said they had classified the case as murder.
In January, Arun and Sumathi submitted a formal request to Suhakam for it to initiate an inquiry into the case.
