BANGI:
Former community communications chief Agus Yusoff said today he had been framed in a video clip which he said had been doctored to show him having a lewd conversation with another man.

He said a police report had been lodged with Kajang police this evening. Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan later confirmed with Utusan Malaysia that a report had been received about the video.

Last night, a video clip of a man resembling Agus having an indecent conversation with another man named “Wahab” had been widely shared after speculation that Agus would be stepping down from his post as director-general of the community communications department, known as J-Kom.

Agus had confirmed yesterday that he had submitted his resignation.

He said today his resignation was not linked to the video but was because of criticism against the department after the government coalition’s poor showing at the six state elections in August.

At the press conference today, the man known as “Wahab” was also present. He later identified himself as Abdul Wahab Abdul Kader, and confirmed that he was the Wahab in the video clip. He said he works in J-Kom as an assistant community district officer and is also the Hulu Langat PKR Youth vice-chairman.

Wahab said he had been asked by a prominent official in J-Kom known as “Mr H” to record a video call with Agus. He said he was under pressure to do so as he had joined J-Kom only on Nov 1.

“I am here to provide an explanation; the video has been edited and manipulated as part of a plot to discredit Agus within J-Kom,” he said. He claimed that the WhatsApp video he recorded did not contain any audio.

However, Wahab appeared to be taken aback when asked by a reporter how he had recorded the WhatsApp video call without any audio track. Wahab urged Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to look into the officials at J-Kom, a unit in the Prime Minister’s Department which has the task of conveying Putrajaya’s messages to the public.

Wahab said he had several meetings with Mr H this month, during which he met individuals described by the latter as influential persons. He said Mr H informed him that he had received information from certain parties indicating that Agus was involved in “immoral activities”.

Wahab said Mr H told him he was assigned to “cleanse J-Kom from within” and assured him that he had the support of influential individuals who wanted to “bring down” Agus, going on to show him WhatsApp conversations with “several influential individuals”.

Wahab said Mr H instructed him to record a video conversation with Agus to obtain evidence of his involvement in the alleged unethical and immoral activities.

“The recorded video, however, turned out to be without audio. I was shocked to discover that the video had been disseminated by a blogger on Facebook,” said Wahab.

“The video had been edited and manipulated by irresponsible parties using voice-over techniques to falsely depict me and Agus engaging in illicit and immoral activities. I want to state that the audio content in the video is fake, fabricated, and untrue,” he said.

The video clip, lasting three minutes, was posted on TikTok by blogger Chegubard, the pen name of Badrul Hisham Shaharin, a member of Bersatu’s information committee, Utusan Malaysia reported. The report said Chegubard questioned whether the man in the video was the J-Kom chief.
