The former Umno Youth chief said providing allocations in exchange for support was not an institutional reform.
“Institutional reform is something where as long as someone is an MP, they deserve to get the same allocation as a government MP.
“Anwar used to preach about equal allocation when he was the opposition leader in Parliament,” Khairy said in the latest episode of the Keluar Sekejap podcast.
The former Rembau MP was commenting on the claim by Labuan MP Suhaili Abdul Rahman that he had received allocations for his constituency after declaring support for Anwar on Oct 30.
On a separate matter, Khairy praised Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman’s decision to temporarily step down as Muda president after his conviction on corruption charges yesterday.
“He does not want Muda to be affected by his court case so I would say he made a principled decision.”
Syed Saddiq was found guilty by the Kuala Lumpur High Court of abetting in criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of assets and money laundering.
The former youth and sports minister was sentenced to seven years’ jail and fined RM10 million. The sentences have been stayed pending an appeal to the Court of Appeal.
Khairy’s co-host, former Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan, said he felt sorry for the Muar MP as he believed the latter was a “good guy”.
“It sucks to see any politician going through this. I feel bad for him.”
