SHAH ALAM:
Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari has tabled a RM2.53 billion state budget for 2024.

In the 2024 state budget, themed “Selangor Mandiri: Driving Progress, Igniting Unity”, RM1.33 billion, or 52.6%, has been allocated for administrative expenses.

He said a total of RM1.2 billion, or 47.4% of the state budget, has been allocated for development expenses.

According to Amirudin, the state government is aiming for a RM2.2 billion revenue collection in 2024. He said his administration believes this estimate was achievable, taking into consideration this year’s revenue having hit the RM2 billion mark as early as August.

“One of the main contributors to the state revenue in 2024 is land premium, amounting to RM890.94 million. This is equivalent to 40.5% of the total estimated revenue,” Amirudin said.

He added that land tax will be the second biggest contributor for Selangor’s revenue, at RM622.65 million, or 28.3%.

Selangor is also going to receive RM213 million from the federal government, or 9.7% of the state budget, he said.

The state government is also optimistic about reducing its budget deficit projection from RM495 million in 2023 to RM330 million next year.

Amirudin said the state government is committed to creating 100,000 high-paying jobs in the next five years across five sectors — food and beverages, electric and electronics, life sciences, transport, and machinery and equipment.

The state earmarked RM94.3 million for education and RM26.5 million to improve infrastructure for schools.

Meanwhile, RM59.7 million was allocated for the state’s public healthcare through various initiatives.

Amirudin said the administration of the top four biggest local councils in the state would be consolidated in 2024 for better uniformity in the licence-issuing process and to revamp townships.

The consolidation is part of a plan called the “Greater Klang Valley”, involving Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, Shah Alam and Klang.

Selangor is also allocating RM130 million for water resources and management of flood mitigation projects.
