Sheila Sharon Steven Kumar, better known as Inspector Sheila, claimed trial after the charge was read to her before magistrate Illi Marisqa Khalizan.

The 35-year-old is said to have caused public harm by being angry, sounding her car horn for a long time and yelling to the point of causing public nuisance at about 5.30pm on June 16.

She was charged under Section 268 of the Penal Code for public nuisance and if convicted could be fined up to RM400.

Illi allowed her bail at RM500 in one surety although deputy public prosecutor Zuhairi Osman suggested RM1,000.

The case will be mentioned on Dec 18.

Earlier, lawyer M Manoharan, who is representing Sheila, complained to the magistrate that the charge framed against his client was unreasonable and an attempt to intimidate her.

He said the decision to prosecute Sheila for sounding the car horn was a bad precedent that could cause fear among the public.

“Anyone can be charged for sounding their car horn. I’ve never heard of a Malaysian being charged under this section.

“The prosecution has nothing better to do. It’s embarrassing to appear for such a charge before this court. It will only waste the court’s time and cost,” Manoharan added.

Sheila posted bail.

Earlier this year, in a magistrates’ court in Selayang, Sheila was charged with intentionally insulting the modesty of lawyer P Taneswaran, 31, by telling him: “Look at yourself, fat and bald like a rhinoceros.”

She faces a penalty of up to five years’ jail or a fine, or both, if convicted under Section 509 of the Penal Code.

Sheila had also claimed trial to committing criminal intimidation against civilian M Silverkoomarie, an offence under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to two years’ jail or a fine, or both, if convicted.

Both offences were allegedly committed at Taman Sri Gombak on June 15.

The trial for both cases will be held on Feb 5 and 6, next year.
