Ramasamy’s lawyer, Shamsher Singh Thind, said a legal notice has been served on the Islamic preacher over remarks he made in a speech in Nigeria on Saturday.

A video of the speech was uploaded onto Naik’s social media platforms.

“The allegations made by Naik against our client are entirely unfounded,” Shamsher said in a statement today.

Ramasamy is demanding that Naik withdraw his accusation that he is “the biggest enemy of Islam” and any videos containing the claim.

He also wants Naik to provide an assurance that he will not repeat the claim.

Should Naik fail to comply with the demands in 14 days, he said, his  lawyers will file a defamation suit against him.

Shamser said they also filed a police report at the Bukit Mertajam district police headquarters on the video, as Naik’s comments “may constitute criminal defamation and improper use of multimedia”.

Last week, the High Court in Kuala Lumpur ordered Ramasamy to pay Naik RM1.52 million in damages for defaming him between 2017 and 2019.

The court ordered Ramasamy to pay the sum within 30 days, but stayed his apology pending oral submissions by both parties scheduled for Dec 1.
