Sungai Udang assemblyman Dr Mohd Aleef Yusof claimed that he was not invited to attend the division’s conference last Saturday.
“They simply do not want to accept me as a representative … (they are) all afraid because of their narrow mindset and thinking,” Aleef told FMT.
“There are members in this party who are afraid of losing their positions when new members join.”
Aleef took Melaka Bersatu chief Dr Mohd Yadzil Yaakub to task for allegedly not acting against those responsible.
He said he and Yadzil should not try to bring each other down as they are the only two Perikatan Nasional assemblymen in the state.
“I have reminded him many times that we must work together in our endeavour to regain control of Melaka,” he said.
However, Aleef said he remained committed to Bersatu as he was grateful to party president Muhyiddin Yassin and secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin for giving him the opportunity to contest in the 2021 state elections.
Meanwhile, Yadzil said he would investigate Aleef’s claims of being sidelined as it was important to consider all sides of the story before making judgments.
“So far, (Melaka Bersatu) is okay. In politics, allegations and attempts to divide and conquer are common,” he told FMT.
“However, as of now, there are no problems, It’s akin to a husband and wife having occasional disagreements within a family. Disagreements happen, but then things eventually settle down.”
