RM1.2mil compound fines for smoking offences last month

Health ministry says the amount is from a total of 4,753 compound notices issued when inspecting over 23,000 food premises.

The health ministry imposed penalties for smoking offences and on premises that did not meet cleanliness requirements.

A total of RM1.2 million in smoking-related penalties were issued through compound notices by the health ministry last month, health director-general Dr Radzi Abu Hassan said today.

He said a total of 9,848 notices for various offences were issued during visits to 23,093 premises.

There were also 2,566 compound notices for RM1.28 million in penalties under rules for the prevention and control of dengue fever.

Radzi said a total of 6,003 food premises were inspected last month with 176 premises ordered to close to ensure the cleanliness of the premises as well as the food served.
