KUALA LUMPUR:
Troubled carrier MYAirline’s operating licence will be suspended, says transport minister Loke Siew Fook.

“We will suspend their licence for the time being,” Loke told reporters after an event here.

Airlines typically require two licences to operate – an air operator certificate (AOC) and an air service licence (ASL).

The AOC and ASL are issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) and the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom), respectively.

Loke said MYAirline will hold a press conference today and that CAAM will also be issuing a statement regarding the low-cost carrier.

He also said a motion concerning MYAirline will be tabled by his deputy, Hasbi Habibollah, in the Dewan Rakyat today.

He reminded the airline to prioritise the welfare of its 900 employees, and its responsibility to the customers.

Last week, MYAirline abruptly suspended operations because of “severe financial challenges”.

It is learnt that it is still looking for a new investor to resume operations.
