
Responding to the government’s call for action, the airport operator said the pledge is to show its solidarity with the people of Palestine amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
“Malaysia Airports is also engaging its subsidiary, Malaysia Airports (Niaga) Sdn Bhd (Eraman), and its partners, as well as commercial tenants to contribute to the fund,” MAHB said in a statement today.
MAHB chairman Zainun Ali said the subsidiary has since promised to raise RM100,000.
MAHB also said it will be holding an internal donation campaign to encourage its employees to make personal contributions, which the company has pledged to match up to RM1 million.
The AAKRP fund is managed by Wisma Putra to support the people of Palestine.
Earlier this week, foreign minister Zambry Abdul Kadir said the government would be channelling RM1 million into the AAKRP fund soon.
The Associated Press reported today that the Palestinian death toll in Gaza had risen to 2,329 as the Israeli army struck hundreds of targets in the densely populated strip’s residential and commercial neighbourhoods.
Home to nearly 2.2 million people, the Gaza Strip has been in the grip of an Israeli siege since 2007.
