JOHOR BAHRU:
The government will approve an allocation of approximately RM168.70 million to overcome congestion at the country’s entry points.

Bernama reported deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof as saying that the allocation would be used for three projects and to provide incentives for immigration officers of various grades on duty at the entry points.

He said the incentives would be given to those on duty at the customs, immigration and quarantine (CIQ) complexes at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) and Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB), as well as KLIA Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.

The three new projects are the addition of 77 MBIKE gates, costing RM61.7 million; the upgrade and construction of new projects at KSAB amounting to RM106.99 million; and the construction of a covered pedestrian walkway along the Johor Causeway, with estimated costs to be detailed later.

“The incentives would involve a financial implication of RM7.93 million per year,” Fadillah said.

“Further discussions will be held with the public services department (JPA) to extend the incentives to immigration personnel in Sabah and Sarawak.”

Fadillah said 21 initiatives had been planned to tackle the traffic congestion at BSI and KSAB. Out of these, 15 have been completed, five to be fully completed by February 2025, and another initiative has yet to be implemented.
