
“I would be lying if I say we have managed to convince everyone. In the beginning, some were cold to us, and some were apprehensive, but we have managed to somewhat convince them,” she told FMT.
She said the government is working hard to gain the confidence of Felda voters.
“We want to ensure that we can convince the Felda voters to help Barisan Nasional regain the seat,” she said.
Asked whether the Felda voters will be the deciding factor in Pelangai, she said “both demographics have their importance”.
“Whether it is the Chinese or Felda voters, everyone has to play their role. If we focus on one and leave the other, it could cost us,” she said.
However, Young Syefura said the response from the Chinese community has been good.
“Many DAP leaders have gone to the ground quite often to convince the Chinese voters,” she said.
The Pelangai by-election is being held following the death of Umno assemblyman and exco member Johari Harun in the plane crash near Bandar Elmina in Shah Alam on Aug 17.
It will see a three-cornered fight among BN’s Amizar Abu Adam, Perikatan Nasional’s Kasim Samat and independent candidate Haslihelmy DM Zulhasli.
The seat’s voter base is 72% Malay, over 18% Chinese, and over 5% Indian.
