PETALING JAYA:
A heated argument between two rival tow truck operators over a customer escalated into a free-for-all in the wee hours of Monday morning in Cheras.

Cheras district police chief Zam Halim Jamaluddin said that the public had alerted the police around 1.37am following the brawl at Kampung Malaysia Tambahan.

“Preliminary investigation showed that the incident started after an accident involving a car. An argument between two tow truck operators competing for the same customer then turned into a fight,” he said in a statement, adding that the fracas involved weapons.

Following that, around 11.15am, the police arrested eight local men, aged between 22 and 44, who were believed to have been involved in the brawl.

The police said that they were still searching for several other suspects who are believed to be at large.

Zam Halim said the case was being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting.

A video of the incident, showing the altercation between the two groups, has been widely circulated on social media.
