Sri Lankan murder suspect dies in custody

Police say Hospital Kuala Lumpur was alerted after the man complained of chest pains last night.

PETALING JAYA:
A 43-year-old Sri Lankan man died at the Jinjang central lockup in Kuala Lumpur last night.

Bukit Aman integrity and standards compliance director Azri Ahmad said the detainee’s death was confirmed by an assistant medical officer from Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL).

He said the man, who was detained for a murder case, complained of chest pains at about 11pm.

“The hospital was immediately contacted,” Azri said in a statement.

“An assistant medical officer from HKL arrived to provide treatment and confirmed the man’s death.”

Azri said HKL will conduct a post-mortem to determine the cause of death.

He added that Bukit Aman’s custodial death investigation unit will probe the man’s death.
