Thunderstorms, strong winds forecast for northern states

KUALA LUMPUR:
Thunderstorms with heavy rain and strong winds are expected for a prolonged period in the northern states of the peninsula, including the waters within the affected states.

The meteorological department said the concentration of winds in the north of the Peninsula is expected to continue until Wednesday.

Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected in Kedah, Penang, Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu and Sabah tonight.

Areas affected are: Kedah – Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling and Kulim; Penang – northeast district and northern Seberang Perai; Perak – Hulu Perak and Kuala Kangsar; all of Kelantan; Terengganu – Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Hulu Terengganu, Kuala Terengganu and Marang; and Sabah – Sipitang, Tenom, Nabawan, Ranau and Sandakan

Flash floods were reported in several low-lying areas of Batu Maung and Permatang Damar Laut in southern Penang island today following a heavy downpour since 9am today.
