KUALA LUMPUR:
Lawyer and rights activist Siti Kasim has urged Malaysians to stand with Iranians in defending fundamental women’s rights.

Siti made an appearance at a memorial for Mahsa Amini held by the Iranian refugee community yesterday.

The memorial was in conjunction with the first year anniversary of the death of 22-year-old Mahsa, who died in custody after she was arrested for not wearing a hijab in accordance with the Iranian government’s standards.

The memorial, held by Iranian activist Simin Azarmehr in collaboration with other Iranian NGOs, aimed to shed light on the story of Mahsa and the Woman, Life, Freedom movement.

Also present were Iranian Refugee Impact Network leader Ahoora Jenab Zedah and Sisters In Islam executive director Rozana Isa.

In Iran, reports said various protests erupted throughout Saturday, leading to the arrests of more than 260 people.
