Abang Johari said this followed an earlier request from Anwar for him to brief the Cabinet on how Sarawak’s economy has been developing in recent years, The Borneo Post reported.

He said the prime minister had recognised the economic strides and advancements Sarawak has made of late.

“The hydrogen economy and green economy are new to them. So, I became a teacher to the Cabinet,” he was quoted as saying, referring to the briefing he gave to federal ministers and deputy ministers who attended the Malaysia Day celebration in Kuching last Saturday.

“Now, (Anwar) wants me to give a talk again to all MPs and chief ministers (and menteris besar) on the new economy that Sarawak has adopted.

“Now, they’re following us, (it’s no longer the other way round). We are very humbled.”

Abang Johari, who is Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) president, said he told the prime minister that everyone worked together in Sarawak, adding that the state’s prosperity meant Malaysia as a whole would also be prosperous.

On Saturday, Anwar praised Sarawak over its post-Covid-19 development strategy (PCDS) 2030, saying other states should emulate the initiative.

The prime minister added that Putrajaya would work closely with Sarawak to help it achieve its PCDS 2030 goals.

The Abang Johari-led Sarawak government unveiled the PCDS 2030 in July 2021, setting out a long-term plan for the state to transform its economic structure in tackling the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.

PCDS 2030 is aimed at accelerating economic growth in six key sectors, namely tourism, commercial agriculture, manufacturing, forestry, mining and social services.
