KUALA LUMPUR:
All MPs have been ordered to go for a full medical check-up to ensure they are in good health, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul said.

Johari said they are required to undergo the check-up at the Parliament health clinic or other health facilities by Oct 31.

He said that given the rise in the number of deaths among MPs in the past decade, it was important that they get themselves checked.

“This check-up is mandatory,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat today.

“I’ve personally seen 11 MPs die over the past 15 years. I ask for this matter to be taken seriously as we are busy and may have forgotten (to take care of) our health.”

Last month, health minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa said all Cabinet members and MPs should go for a medical check-up at least once a year.
