MCA chief Wee faces challenge for party post

Former central committee member Tan Chong Seng is contesting the party presidency, while seven candidates are vying for the four vice-presidents' posts.

Former MCA central committee member Tan Chong Seng is challenging party president Wee Ka Siong for his post at the coming party elections.

Sin Chew Daily also reported that MCA deputy president Mah Hang Soon and Wanita MCA deputy chief Tee Hooi Ling were returned unopposed.

A total of seven candidates are vying for the four MCA vice-presidents’ posts.

Ti Lian Ker, Lim Ban Hong and Tan Teik Cheng are seeking re-election. The others in the contest are MCA Youth chief Wong Siaw Ting, Tanjung Piai MP Wee Jeck Seng, MCA deputy secretary-general Pamela Yong, and MCA deputy treasurer-general Lawrence Low.

There will be a three-cornered fight between Johor executive councillor Ling Tian Soon, MCA Youth secretary-general Wa Wai How, and Klang MCA Youth member Chan Kee Siang for the MCA Youth chief’s post.

A total of 48 candidates will be contesting for a place in MCA’s 25-member central committee.

Wanita MCA chief Wong You Fong is expected to defend her post in a straight fight with Ooi Siew Kim.

The polls for MCA Youth and Wanita MCA will be held on Sept 23 while the MCA central committee election will be held the next day.
