JOHOR BAHRU:
A day after being elected MP for Pulai, Suhaizan Kaiat has already received more than 30 requests for help from his constituents.

He said they mostly involved infrastructure needs, especially involving housing issues, in addition to women and youth wanting various events to be held in the area.

“So far, there are more than 30 requests received, that is what has been recorded. Some have also mentioned their requests to my representative,” said Suhaizan.

He said it would be a challenge to manage the requests, as we are now approaching the end of the year.

However, he pledged to serve all the people, regardless of their political inclinations.

“Members of Parliament are elected by the voters and must serve the people, which means all Malaysians are entitled to be helped, even if they are not our supporters, we should all help them as best as possible,” he told reporters.

At a thanksgiving reception held by Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional today, Suhaizan said he had learned a lot from the former MP, the late Salahuddin Ayub, from the time they were in PAS, and when he was appointed as Salahuddin’s political secretary.

“He gave me much guidance in the politics of Johor and the country. Salahuddin always said that he wanted his officers, including me, to be like him, so we tried to fulfill his requests like taking care of the needs of the community and having a moderate political approach,” he said.

Salahuddin’s eldest son, Iskandar Zulkarnain, 37, said he believed Suhaizan as one of Salahuddin’s political protégés, could continue his father’s legacy.

“My father was really close to Suhaizan, their relationship was more or less like a mentor and protégé and he can continue my father’s legacy as an MP as best he can,” said Iskandar.

Suhaizan was elected by a majority of 18,641 votes over Perikatan Nasional’s Zulkifli Jaafar and independent candidate Samsudin Fauzi.

The by-election for the Pulai parliamentary seat and the Simpang Jeram state assembly seat was held following Salahuddin’s death on July 23.
